Why Frazer?

Ken Frazer HLM, MPA, F.Ph. has been a professional photographer his entire working life.  He started this work in his teens and is now in his fifth decade in the industry.  He has seen many changes over that time, but most especially, the improvement of the art and craft of photography.  The equipment available today leads some to believe that they can be “instant” photographers, but it takes years to perfect your craft and be considered a professional. The principles of art, light and design are the critical skills, not the camera type.

A session with Frazer guarantees you will have an experience that is positive from start to finish. You will have great memories to look back on those chapters of your life. The most valuable thing you will collect in life will be your relationships, not things. Enjoy those relationships through the art of photography.

Consultation & Schedule

Just call or text  us at 204-727-8884  or send us an email at info@frazerstudio.com and we will schedule a planning session. We may then  send you information that will help you prepare for your portrait session. At the lake, we photograph sessions 7 days a week so weekend appointments are welcome.

Photography session

Our outdoor environmental sessions take about 30-45 minutes, plus the travel time to go to and from the location. Every effort is taken to make this experience as fun and relaxed as possible. Our clients often remark that they did not expect it to be as much fun as it was.

View & Choose

This is the session that you see all of your results! The blinks have been taken out so you are going to see the best images from your session. In a theatre style presentation. Your images will be shown in exactly the size you choose, so you are confident the right size and pose has been chosen. We normally do this session the day after photography at the lake, There is a great deal of flexibility in the time you may choose your images.

The actual choice of the best images is done by comparing them on a very large calibrated screen, and narrowing them down to the best of the best. This session takes about an hour normally. Often when there are children involved, we recommend you bring them to the initial video of your session, and then let them go out to play. The fine tuning of which poses and retouching are required for your final order is generally left to the decision makers for the family only.

When you have completed your order, we ask for a deposit that will cover one half of the total cost, and collect the balance when the order is done.  MasterCard, Visa, Debit, cheques and cash are all accepted. Final orders take approximately six to eight weeks to complete and can be shipped to wherever you live.

Portrait Pricing

Our method of pricing is made up of  a session fee plus your choice of a variety of a la carte items. Session fees begin at one hundred and go to one hundred fifty dollars depending on the size of group and location.  Desk sized retouched portraits start at $80 and decrease in cost with quantity ordering. Our canvas wrapped archival wall portraits start at $650 and go up to about $1400. We do have some multi image composites on mini canvas frames that fit in between those price ranges.

Our portraits are all hand printed on the finest and most archival print materials available today. They far exceed the quality of materials we used in the film days in both longevity and the depth of colour that they can reproduce.

We can discuss pricing in detail at your consultation so you know what your investment will be.

What about digital files?

A great photographer of the past, Ansel Adams, compared music and its performance, to the art of photography. Ansel was both one of the world’s most recognized photographic artists and a professional musician. I will paraphrase his famous quote to suit our current digitial age.

He said, “The negative (which is currently the exposure of light in the camera to its electronic chip) is the score (sheetmusic of the piece), but the print is the final performance.” That is, the artistic interpretation of that raw image is up to the final printmaker.

We are and always will be print artists. The “DRPA” or Digital Reproduction of Printed Art, that we commonly see on laptop, computer and iPad screens do not fully and accurately represent the quality of the final image which we create for our clients.

In the interests of completing our art and giving our clients the best possible service, we spend a great deal of time and effort in hand printing and inspecting the final prints, finished for you and your family to enjoy for years to come rather than digital files on a disc.

Having said all of that, many of us use our phones as our portable image brag book to show friends and relatives our photos. We can provide you a screen sized file from each pose which there was a final print portrait ordered.  These files are not intended for printing.
